While the Google Pixel Watch was teased on Google IO, we’ve only heard select details about the watch, and more information is coming out of leaks and reports in the run-up to the wearable’s full launch.
For example, we’ve just heard about watch straps. it comes from 9to5Google (opens in new tab)which apparently received information about the different bracelets and bracelets that Google is preparing for the watch.
Apparently, the company is preparing at least seven different types of wristbands for its next smartwatch, although 9to5Google says not all of them can actually hit the market. These seem to be variants you can buy later, not the ones in the box.
The site mentions some of the options that Google is preparing. This includes an equivalent of the Apple Watch’s Milanese Loop, which would likely be the most premium option on sale (likely with a high price tag). There’s also silicone, link, stainless steel and two leather options.
Analysis: Different strips are important
Different types of wristbands are useful for different smartwatch wearers and situations, so it makes sense that Google is working on several of them.
For example, straps made from synthetic materials are often better for exercise as they adhere well and are generally more breathable. Metal or leather straps are often preferred as fashion statements for their looks, but they aren’t as useful for workouts.
It’s also possible that Google is working on different color variants of the straps above, giving people even more choices for reasons of fashion or preference.
As Samsung and Apple already make a lot of wristbands for their smartwatches, Google would be late if they didn’t do the same too, so to some extent this news was to be expected. But it’s good to know that the company is covering its bases – it gives the Pixel Watch a better chance of hitting our list of the best smartwatches.
