Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay was first shown at Summer Game Fest, giving viewers a partial look at a mission in the game.
The footage showcases one of the new story missions, reintroducing players to the world of Modern Warfare. The mission sees a covert team infiltrating an oil rig and a ship, and while it periodically gets heavy on action, it starts off as a fairly silent stealth mission that predictably escalates into chaos.
You can catch the game trailer here:
Confusingly, this game is not a remake of the fan-favorite Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, but rather a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. That means this footage is from an entirely new mission.
That said, there are clear parallels between this new mission and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s Crew Expendable’s original mission, where players infiltrate a ship, before having to flee as it sinks behind them. The similarities here are very clear, and this is probably not a mistake. That said, the trailer didn’t last long enough to see if the ship actually sinks, which is a little provocative.
The game was initially revealed at a presentation yesterday, with the sequel reimagining the original characters from the older franchise – Soap, Captain Price, Gaz and Ghost are all present here.
Infinity Ward has remained tight-lipped about the prospect of Warzone 2, but has teased that if fans look closely at yesterday’s reveal trailer, there are clues to be found.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
