The Last Case of Benedict Fox, a creepy side-scroller from Polish studio Plot Twist, has received a reveal trailer on Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase.
Although the game was announced earlier this year, this new trailer has given us our first proper look at the gameplay and we’re getting serious with Hollow Knight and Oxenfree vibes.
According to a press release, The Last Case of Benedict Fox combines the “classic feel of Metroidvanias with the challenging combat of Souls-likes”. The game is set in 1925 Boston and sees self-proclaimed detective Benedict Fox discover “the fate of a family as he traverses a dark and mysterious world of manifested emotions while fighting the demon trapped within his own body”. Check out the trailer below:
The handcrafted art style reminds us of Oxenfree, while Metroidvania’s gameplay is likely to please fans of the genre.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox will release for Xbox consoles and PC as an Xbox console exclusive in “Spring 2023”. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
More than a quarter of people don’t back up their photos, an exclusive Pro poll revealed.
The results of the survey of 1,000 people, conducted by OnePulse on our behalf suggest that a staggering number of users are leaving their old photos open to data loss in case of device failure or security breach.
Asked about their cloud storage data backup preferences and habits, 25.6% of respondents admitted not using photo cloud storage to protect your media.
When it comes to choosing a storage medium, the largest group of people (37.4%) choose physical drives over cloud storage (33.4%). This includes 12.2% who rely on USB flash drives5.6% backing up to tape and 19.6% using external hard drives and NAS drives.
Despite the consumer and enterprise cloud storage services playing a greater role in protecting our digital lives, physical devices in general remain the preferred solution.
The survey also revealed which cloud-based service is most popular, with more than half of respondents saying they “store photos primarily on Google”.
The majority (42.1%) opt for the free version, regardless of the upload and resolution limits imposed on those who do not subscribe Google One. But just under 20% pay for photo storage, either with Google or a Google Photos alternative.
Facebook proved to be a surprisingly popular choice, with 8.9% making use of the social network’s cloud facilities. Another 8.4% use other free services to store their photos.
Pro research offers a glimpse into how we are choosing to protect the media that matters most to us.
Today, videos and images are invaluable. Any painful loss – whether it’s a stolen device or a data breach – also carries big security and privacy implications.
However, resistance to backing up photos (as with the 21% who do not store images online) may, in part, be driven by other security and privacy concerns. It’s no secret that cloud data breaches are on the rise, causing confidence in technology companies to decline.
Companies may also be struggling to create and maintain a strong media backup process. With so many digital assets flowing between departments, the resources needed to properly catalog and store them takes time that most companies don’t have.
Promisingly, however, nearly 71% have photo backups in case of problems. And it’s almost neck-to-neck between physical and cloud storage, for now.
We expect online photo backup to take the lead in the future; it’s very convenient and integrated into daily life – not just on our phones and home computers. As with video conferencing, the switch to remote control and hybrid work means everyone is now familiar with cloud storage.
Despite contemporary game consoles sharing similar hardware designs to PCs, there is a main reason why people choose sides between Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Performance specs and features aside, exclusives have been the ultimate choice for gamers without deep pockets to go multiplatform.
Aside from the Nintendo Switch hybrid format, the console is the only place to play the latest Zelda, Mario, Metroid and Kirby games. Sony continually sets the standard for its cinematic single-player titles on PlayStation consoles, such as Last of Us Part II and Ratchet and Clank, developed with multi-million budgets.
While the Japanese electronics manufacturer has recently been involved in PC releases, more recent releases like Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Forbidden West can only be played on Sony’s latest console.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has turned its Xbox brand into an ecosystem that spans consoles, video game streaming and PC. That means first-party releases like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 get day one releases on all of their platforms. This makes sense considering that the best PC games are mostly a Windows-only affair (although the best Mac games also have a lot to offer), and let’s not forget that the Xbox suite is named after the Microsoft Direct X API used. by PC game developers.
Games made exclusively for PCs technically still exist, and some of the best free games available are PC exclusives, including many of the most popular esports titles. However, large sustain AAA exclusives are definitely rarer than ever.
In 2020, we’ve seen a slight resurgence of big-budget PC exclusives like Microsoft Flight Simulator, which launched on PC a year before it was released on Xbox Series X|S consoles, and Half Life: Alyx for VR only. Since then, PC gamers haven’t liked the excitement that comes with God of War: Ragnarok or Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
PC gaming exclusives used to be the norm
It’s a shame considering how PC gaming has historically served as the foundation for many popular series that are still at the top of the charts today. EA’s John Madden Football was first released on the Apple II (opens in new tab) in 1988 first before being ported to other PC platforms and eventually making its debut in 1990 on Sega Genesis consoles. Another EA property, The Sims, was a PC-only title for years before finally coming to consoles.
When it comes to shooters, the PC gaming legacy involves debuts from classic franchises like Doom, Wolfenstein, Call of Duty, Deus Ex, Far Cry, Serious Sam, Max Payne, and Crysis, all of which were released first on PC.
The debate over whether Quake III: Arena or Unreal Tournament was the best tournament shooter was once the dominant conversation in gaming, and it was completely lost on console-only gamers — and it was as controversial as any PS5 vs Xbox Series X debate.
While recent PC versions of the latest AAA games often become a showcase for new technologies on the best gaming PCs, they aren’t enough to sway console gamers who aren’t used to thinking in terms of ray tracing and frame rates. SSD access. After all, they are the ones getting all the exclusive releases these days.
Plus, the best graphics cards have always been the domain of a few PC enthusiasts, so most PC gamers aren’t even experiencing the high-quality visuals that make the PC the gaming platform it is. And that’s not a large enough customer base to justify the incredible expense of a modern AAA title, especially given the propensity of PC gamers to steal their games for free.
A sizable minority of PC gamers are responsible for the death of AAA exclusives
according to one 2016 PC Gamers Reportnearly 35% of PC gamers have pirated games, and they did – and still do – it much. Digital Rights Management (or DRM) has been a controversial topic for developers and gamers alike, but it’s not hard to see the business sense in this.
One of the reasons PC exclusives are drying up is that so many players on the platform could find a way to get a free pirated version. While big AAA developers from EA to Activison to Ubisoft may take the financial hit and readjust their strategy, indies do far more harm.
In 2008, World of Goo was released by 2D Boy without DRM protection. With a developer seeing 500 seeders and 300 leechers on torrent sites, it wasn’t hard to see as its piracy rate reached around 90 percent. World of Goo was co-released on the Wii, which had much stronger piracy controls, so it’s obvious which platform made the most money for the two-person development team. And in the end, it’s the money that keeps the studios going, not the love and adoration of their fans.
It also doesn’t make sense to focus resources on PC-only games when only represents about 30% of the video game industry market share (opens in new tab) along with consoles and the hugely successful mobile market. This is even more true when a significant number of users within the PC gaming community pirate games – and it’s enough to force larger, but especially smaller, development teams to protect their investment and stay away from PC-only content.
The lack of exclusive PC games that can actually take advantage of significantly more powerful PC gaming hardware is a serious issue for those who have made substantial investments in their equipment. This is especially true when many PC editions of cross-platform games doesn’t even get graphical improvements like the latest Madden and FIFA releases, but ultimately this problem started within the PC gaming community itself.
Is there any hope for PC exclusives in the future?
Games like Gone Home, Disco Elysium, Bright Memory: Infinite, and Hotline Miami were all small-budget independent projects that enjoyed explosive success on the PC. These games span multiple genres and don’t have AAA budgets, but they provide a unique experience enough to stand on its own. More importantly, they were released on PC before they got console ports, if they ever got one.
Outside of Half Life: Alyx and Microsoft Flight Simulator, however, there aren’t many PC exclusives that utilize the best available computer hardware the way they did in the 1990s and 2000s. And some of today’s best indie games might even run on computers that were considered top notch in the early 2000s, but which may now struggle to run Skyrim with more than a few active mods.
And while PCs will always be the true home of the best MMO games like Final Fantasy XIV and Guild Wars 2 – along with popular esports titles like Dota 2 and Valorant – there just won’t be many blockbusters, visual pieces made exclusively for one. high end gaming platform the way it used to be.
There is simply no more economic reason to make these types of games. And with the rise of more affordable development tools like Unreal Engine 5 that make cross-platform development easier than ever, the days of PC gamers bragging that their rig “can run Crysis” are likely to fade. gone forever.
I’ve just tested the Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro – more to the point, I’ve just finished playing non-stop, but as it’s a gaming phone I think it’s an acceptable way to test it – and it was a difficult task putting it down.
The device is great for gaming – it has a powerful processor and a beautiful display, but my favorite aspect is the physical triggers, which you can map to functions in a game. This means that when you press those rim-mounted buttons, the phone thinks you’re pressing a certain area of the screen – so in a shooter game you can map one to the aim button and the other to the fire button. , making it faster to press both.
In fact, the Black Shark 5’s triggers were so useful that playing competitive titles online felt unfair – a fact that the recent release of Apex Legends Mobile hit home.
Physical triggers aren’t exactly new to Android phones, and for a few years now, gaming phones I’ve tested, like the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel and Nubia Red Magic 6, boast haptics – that means you tap a point on the edge. device and your finger is lifted.
The Black Shark 5 Pro has the best version of this I’ve ever tried (I should point out that the Black Shark 4 Pro and Poco F4 GT also use it, although I haven’t tested them).
The triggers physically detach and so you get a satisfying ‘click’ when you press them – that means you know exactly how much force to use to press them, and you know when your touch has been picked up. It’s the closest feeling I’ve had to using a game controller when testing a phone.
But that’s the problem – I’m the only one using these triggers.
a hardware show
The world of mobile gaming is incredibly diverse in terms of hardware – you could play in a squad alongside people using the high-end Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or a budget Motorola phone and you’d never know.
More often than not, game developers cater to this discrepancy and make titles as accessible as possible, so having a weak phone isn’t an obstacle. But still, screen quality and refresh rate can make a difference – and for triggers, that’s especially true.
It’s hard to deny that triggers give you the upper hand when you’re playing online shooting games. Since you usually use the same thumb for movement and for shooting, to attack someone you need to stop moving, move your thumb, find the fire button and press it – this can be a time consuming process. You can move and shoot, but it’s tricky.
Triggers cut through this process – you simply hold your index finger on the phone’s frame, and when you need to shoot, just press your finger a little – it’s incredibly easy.
While your opponent is passing time by reaching for the ‘shoot’ button, your finger is already lifting after blasting them.
Apex Legends came at a bad time…
I’ve been looking forward to Apex Legends Mobile for a while, but its release came at the same time the Black Shark 5 Pro showed up on my doorstep – and I’ve just described the advantage this phone has given me.
Black Shark has made it very easy to handle frantic battles, when multiple different teams are converging on the same point at the same time. I didn’t have to play tactically like everyone else, as my improved response times made me lethal.
Checking my stats now, my average damage per match is over 2,000 while my KD ratio is over 35 – in the nine games I’ve played, I’ve won seven of them.
And I should clarify that I’m not bragging – I’m just average at games most of the time. But this hardware gave me such an advantage that it elevated me from ‘indistinguishable from a bot’ to ‘normal MVP’.
Is this treason? Well, that depends on your definition – I’m not literally hacking the game like a lot of people do in these online shooters, but I’m using tools that not every player has access to.
Thankfully, I don’t have to sit on this moral dilemma for long – I’m already testing another trigger-free phone – but it’s definitely something to think about if you’re considering buying the Black Shark or a similar device.

A recent report suggested that God of War: Ragnarök will make its release window in 2022 and could be aiming for a November release date.
The report comes from Bloomberg’s (opens in new tab) Jason Schreier, who said, according to three sources familiar with the game’s development, that it is on track for a November release. Two of these sources go so far as to say that a release date announcement could come in late June.
According to Schreier, September was previously Santa Monica Studio’s internal target before moving to November. Given that the game only has a public release window of 2022, this is more of an internal delay that doesn’t require an announcement like the game’s previous move from 2021 to 2022.
As Schreier himself points out, while November is the target “as of this week”, when it comes to game development and internal dates, nothing is set. So even though God of War: Raganarök is targeting a November domestic release right now, that’s no guarantee of its eventual final release date.
God of War: Ragnarök is still scheduled for release in 2022. When it does release, it will be playable on PS4 and PS5 as a PlayStation exclusive.
Analysis: Speculation abounds
This report comes at a time when there is a lot of talk and speculation surrounding the release date for God of War: Ragnarök.
Recently, the PlayStation Game Size Twitter account reported (opens in new tab) that the Ragnarök placeholder release date has moved from September 30 to December 31, suggesting a Q4 release date of October to December 2022. November would certainly fall in that window.
There were rumors (via Radar Games (opens in new tab)) that the game could appear during the opening night of Summer Game Fest on June 9, but this turned out to be incorrect. The silence around it has led some to wonder if God of War: Ragnarök could be being pushed back to 2023, with gamereactor (opens in new tab) reporting that “various European sources” suggested this.
Schreier addressed this in a post on reset era (opens in new tab)writing, “It’s hard to definitively prove a negative, but Someone who would know firsthand just told me they haven’t heard anything about a landslide for 2023, as has Someone who might know secondhand.”
It looks like the time is ripe, then, for a release date announcement, and according to this Bloomberg report, it looks like we could get one very soon.
AMD’s FSR 2.0 (Super Resolution FidelityFX) frame rate boost feature that uses temporal upscaling is coming to Hitman 3 and a number of other games in the not too distant future.
Team Red has just published a blog post (opens in new tab) revealing five new games that will support FSR 2.0, which include Hitman 3, as mentioned, as well as Abyss World, Rescue Party: Live, Super People, and The Callisto Protocol.
AMD also reminded us of 11 other games that will get FSR 2.0 in the future, and that includes Microsoft Flight Simulator, Eve Online, and Forspoken (when it launches later in the year – this will also be the first game to support DirectStorage, notably) .
The full list of 16 games due to FSR 2.0 support is as follows:
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Perfect world remake
Rescue Group: Live
The Callisto Protocol
Unknown 9: Awakening
FSR 2.0 uses temporal upscaling, which makes it a big step up from FSR 1.0 which used spatial upscaling. The difference is that with temporal, the FSR is drawing data to do its magic not only on the current frame in the game, but also on previous frames – just like Nvidia DLSS does – and this makes for an improved image quality.
Analysis: Impressive Progress and FSR 1.0 Games Still Coming
With those 16 entry-level games and three titles already featuring upscaling technology, there are 19 games in total that have brought or are bringing FSR 2.0 on board.
In case you missed it, the launch game with FSR 2.0 was Deathloop and since then we have witnessed the technology coming to God of War and Farming Simulator 22. AMD has also provided some new benchmarks for the latest games, showing, for example, that Deus of War at 4K ‘ultra’ settings on an RX 6950 XT hit 66 frames per second (fps) by default. This has increased considerably to 96 fps with FSR 2.0 in performance mode and 83 fps with FSR 2.0 in quality mode (for the best enhanced image quality, which looks very close to native 4K).
It’s good to see FSR 2.0 making commendable progress in raw numbers, even if it’s fair to say that a considerable portion of onboard games are more obscure subjects, there are still some big names set in the mix.
What’s interesting to note is that support is still being announced for FSR 1.0 with some games, with AMD noting that this is because the developers in question started working on incorporating the technology some time ago. Games receiving FSR 1.0 include Arma Reforger, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Dolmen, Hitman 3, iRacing, Sniper Elite 5, The Elder Scrolls Online, and V Rising.
So yes, the Hitman 3 is getting support for both FSR 1.0 and 2.0, giving people the choice, with FSR 1.0 being less stressful on GPUs – for inferior results, of course – but that means those with a smaller graphics card which is below the hardware recommendations for FSR 2.0 still have the option to resort to increasing the frame rate.
Do yourself a favor, and invest in one of the best MacBook Air accessories. While it’s true that not everyone needs the extra peripherals, many MacBook Air users will benefit significantly from adding some to their arsenal.
MacBook accessories can considerably improve a user’s experience, not just in obvious ways. Photographers and editors, for example, will have a more seamless workflow with one of the best mice instead of just relying on the laptop’s trackpad. Meanwhile, professionals who spend most of their workday typing away on the keyboard can have better workstation ergonomics with just a separate keyboard and a laptop mount.
These peripherals can also save you money. For instance, if you need a lot of storage space, you could be saving a few hundred bucks/quid by opting for an external SSD drive instead of upgrading with Apple. So, whether you have an older MacBook Air or you’re waiting for the newly-launched MacBook Air M2, now available for pre-order, you’ll be wise to purchase a few peripherals as well.
Don’t worry; we’re not recommending anything that doesn’t make economic sense or only adds to your workspace clutter. As MacBook users, we have sampled many made-for-MacBook accessories, and we’re sticking with the most useful ones, many of which we utilize ourselves daily. These are our top picks of the best MacBook Air accessories.
The best MacBook Air accessories 2022 – chosen by our experts
Best keyboard overall
Best for: Typists, writers, programmers
Features: Dictation key, multi-device connectivity, Bluetooth and Logi Bolt USB Receiver connectivity
Reasons to buy
Thin, light and compact

Apple’s Magic Keyboard may be one of the best productivity keyboards you’ll ever use, but it’s also a little out of many users’ budget. Enter the Logitech MX Keys Mini, another terrific entry in the brand’s impressive Master Series. It’s still not the cheapest, but it’s much more affordable than Apple’s offering, and it’s worth the price considering its excellent scissor switches, solid build, and appealing design.
The best MacBook Air accessory for those who spend a considerable chunk of their day typing on the computer, the Logitech MX Keys Mini is just as much a pleasure to type on as the Magic Keyboard. Plus, it comes with a few advantages over its rival, including multi-device connectivity (up to three devices), two wireless connectivity options, and an angled design for ergonomics. Unfortunately, it is missing a TouchID sensor, but that’s not a deal-breaker for us – especially since the Magic Keyboard’s TouchID doesn’t always work in our experience.
Why exactly do you need this if the MacBook Air already comes with its own keyboard? For ergonomics. With a separate keyboard, you can mount that laptop and set it away from you and at eye level, taking the strain off your back, neck and shoulders.
While there are many excellent mice for MacBooks, none of them can hold a candle to Apple’s Magic Mouse 2. It might be a little more expensive, but it also boasts some features that its rivals can only dream about. First of all, it’s impossibly thin – so thin that you can slip it into the back pocket of your jeans – making it travel-friendly. Its performance is also top-notch, allowing it to be incredibly responsive and accurate.
However, its marquee feature is its multi-touch surface, which means that the mouse’s whole top surface functions much like a trackpad, so you can swipe, scroll and double-tap away for a more seamless and ergonomic experience. With the Magic Mouse 2, therefore, it’s like you’re getting a mouse and a trackpad in one device.
Why do we recommend this? The trackpad on the MacBook Air is spacious, responsive, and luxurious. However, it’s not conducive to a seamless creative or productive workflow, and it’s not going to be kind to your arm when you’re using it all day. Trust us; the Magic Mouse 2 will not only improve your workflow but also take a bit of that pressure off your wrist and shoulder.
3. Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter
Most portable hub
Best for: : Professionals
Features: HDMI, USB and USB-C ports
Reasons to buy
Up to 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz via HDMI
Reasons to avoid
Only three ports
There are many hubs out there, and most of them are travel-friendly. However, none of them are as portable as this three-port adapter from Apple – just the perfect companion to your MacBook Air, especially when you’re jetting off to another city or country. It may only come with three ports, which isn’t many considering the price, but they are the most vital ones.
With it, you’re getting a USB port and an HDMI port without losing one of your USB-C ports, which is a good thing since you’re only getting two of them. And, just because it’s small and compact doesn’t mean it isn’t powerful. That HDMI port can deliver 4K videos at 60Hz, granted you have a suitable HDMI cable.
Who needs this MacBook Air accessory? Pretty much all creative and non-creative professionals who need the extra ports for their other peripherals, even when they’re on the go.
We use the Moshi Muse laptop sleeve just as much at home as when traveling. Being a laptop sleeve, it protects your MacBook Air from dings, scratches and the elements. But it also serves another purpose. Its front flap serves a dual purpose – it keeps your laptop stowed away using magnets while moonlighting as an ergonomic stand when you’re using your device. To turn it into a stand, you simply fold it and tuck one end into the sleeve pocket.
As a stand, it delivers an ergonomic typing experience, protects the bottom of your laptop and keeps any laptop from overheating when you only have a porous surface to work with. It’s so effective at the latter that we love using it with our MacBook Pro when working in bed. Of course, the MacBook Air M1, being fanless, doesn’t need that “leg up” for circulation. However, the other benefits still apply.
What’s more, it’s made of vegan leather and is more affordable than the leather sleeve that Apple has on offer.
Portable and rugged SSD to expand your storage space
Best for: : Creative professionals
Features: 500GB to 4TB capacity, up to two-meter drop protection, IP55 rating, USB-C to USB-C with USB-A adapter
Reasons to buy
Robust, rugged, compact
More affordable than Apple’s SSD upgrades
Thin and lightweight
Reasons to avoid
Not for the budget-minded
We adore our SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, and not just because it’s so tiny, handy and, well, adorable. One of the best and most popular portable SSDs on the market, this punches above its 1.76-ounce weight with up to 1050MB/s read and up to 1000MB/s write speeds, which should come in handy in creative workloads where the ability to retrieve and save large files quickly is vital.
True to its portable nature, it’s rugged and designed to be travel-friendly. It has two-meter drop protection, dust protection and resistance to water jets from any angle. It also has a Carabiner loop so you can hang it where it’s easily accessible, as well as password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to secure your files.
Portable SSDs are still not cheap, so it’s hardly a surprise that this comes at a steep price. However, if you need that extra storage space, you’ll be paying twice as much when upgrading the MacBook Air’s storage with Apple. That could mean a few hundred dollars more.

6. Anker 643 USB-C to USB-C Cable
Durable USB-C cable that comes in different colors
We love our braided cables, but we might just love Anker’s newer line of silicone cables more. They are soft to touch, flexible and tangle-resistant. How these cables are designed makes them hard to get tangled, which has always been an issue with other charging cords. That saves you a lot of time and frustration.
Just because it’s not braided doesn’t mean it’s less durable – it boasts a 25,000-bend lifespan. Anker is so confident in its durability that it comes with an 18-month warranty. It’s powerful as well. It can transmit max power output of 100W, so you can use it to charge not just your phone and tablet but also your MacBook Air.
It’ll even let you add a splash of color to your setup, thanks to its blue, green, yellow, gray, purple and light purple options. You can even choose between a three-foot option and a six-foot-one.
Ideally, we would go for the Apple Airpods Max, which boasts ANC and high-fidelity audio. But, it’s among the most expensive consumer headphones out there, and there are more affordable options that are just as good. There’s the Bose Noise Cancelling 700, which is a tad cheaper and delivers hi-fi sound that’s well-balanced and detailed. It comes with all the premium frills, like excellent active noise cancellation, intuitive touch controls so you won’t have to figure out which button does what, and support for Alexa for voice control.
Not all listeners are into neutral sound, so it’s good that these headphones come with app support to make EQ adjustments so you can have the sound profile that suits you. This Bose app also lets you check battery life, toggle audio sources, adjust the noise cancellation level and customize one of the touch controls. It also has a 13-hour battery life and can connect to two audio sources simultaneously, something you don’t always find in headphones of the same caliber.
Why is this an essential addition to your MacBook Air arsenal? You’ll need a pair of headphones to listen to music, watch videos and jump on video calls with colleagues when you’re out in public. If you’re going to do so, you might as well get that audiophile-approved sound – although if you don’t care much about sound quality, there are much cheaper options.

8. Twelve South Curve
High-quality laptop mount
Best for: : All professionals
Features: Anti-slip silicone arms, fits most 11-inch to 17-inch laptops
Reasons to buy
Improves workstation ergonomics
Reasons to avoid
Pricier than most laptop mounts
We’ve used several laptop mounts, and while most are pretty solid and reliable, we quite love the look of Twelve South’s offerings as the company tends to go for a more professional finish. The Twelve South Curve, one of its latest releases, doesn’t fall far from that tree. Coming in matte black and white, it has that nice half-moon base that separates it from the rest.
It’s not just about the looks, however. This mount has an anti-slip surface to ensure that your laptop stays in place, a six-inch rise to put your device at eye level, and a design that fits most laptops, including the small 11-inch ones and the 17-inch behemoths.
The question is, do you need a laptop mount? Absolutely. You’re not doing your neck, back and shoulders any favor by staring down at your laptop screen for eight hours or more. A display, after all, must be at eye level. By setting the laptop on a mount, you can also round out your workstation ergonomics by adding a keyboard with a wrist rest and a mouse.
Excellent 1080p webcam
Best for: : Remote workers
Features: 1080p resolution at 60fps, 78-degree field of view, autofocus, auto framing mode, optimized for popular live streaming software
Reasons to buy
Excellent video quality in a compact form
1080p at 60fps
Reasons to avoid
There are cheaper 1080p options
Apple might finally upgrade the MacBook Air’s measly webcam to a proper 1080p this year, but current MacBook Air users would have to be satisfied with that 720p resolution it offers. Or, they can just upgrade to a 1080p webcam like the Logitech StreamCam.
Designed for streamers with streaming-focused features like streaming software optimizations and auto-framing mode, it’s also a terrific option for remote workers who need to jump on daily video standups with their team. That 1080p at 60fps video quality is also a treat, as is the USB-C connectivity that makes it ideal for all Mac users. And we adore its compact square form factor and classy cloth front panel.
This is a bit more expensive than other 1080p offerings, but you’re getting a premium, travel-friendly model here. Pair it with Logitech’s portable Litra Glow streaming light, as we do, and you’ll look like a professional streamer on those video calls with co-workers.
We’ve tested our share of laptop battery packs, and to be very honest, most of them are faulty. Either they stop charging after a few minutes or only have enough juice to give your laptop a full charge. Some even run so hot while charging you get paranoid that they’ll burst into flames. Only a handful of laptop power banks out there are truly reliable, and Eggtronic’s offering is among them.
For a reasonably affordable laptop power bank, it has a 20,000mAh capacity that manages to charge older 13-inch MacBook Pros and the MacBook Air to 100% and still have enough juice to charge your phone. It can also charge three devices simultaneously thanks to its two USB-A and one USB-C ports – though bear in mind that the USB-C drops its power delivery down from 63W to 45W when you’re charging other devices. Luckily, it has fast-charging skills so that you can charge up your laptop in no time.
It also comes with other great features, including an LCD that accurately shows how much juice it has left and a water-repellant canvas-type cover. If you’re a digital nomad or a long-term traveler, you’ll need this addition to your setup.
Why do we say this? Well, most of Verizon’s best deals (opens in new tab) at any point in the year usually revolve around trading an old device. Now, for example, you can save $800 on iPhone 13 (opens in new tab), Galaxy S22 and even the Google Pixel 6 Pro, but only delivering that old device. It’s great to recycle, of course, but some people just don’t have an old device that can fetch that value in a trade.
That’s where this ‘free’ iPhone 12 deal at Verizon comes in – you’ll skip device payments without the need for an annoying switch, as long as you’re choosing one on an eligible unlimited plan. These can be quite pricey in themselves (about $45 to $90 a month over 36 months), but it will save you $699 on device payments.
Note that this Verizon deal on the iPhone 12 is likely to stick through the weekend, but it looks like one of the carrier’s most popular options right now. The device itself is on hold until the end of June at the moment, so we recommend ordering sooner rather than later if you want faster delivery.

If you thought ransomware forcing people to do good deeds was bizarre – wait until you hear about WannaFriendMe. To get the decryptor for this newly discovered ransomware (opens in new tab) tension, victims need to buy a game pass from the Roblox Game Pass store.
Roblox is a gaming platform where users can build and play games. Game creators can monetize their creations by requiring game passes before playing. These passes can be purchased with the platform’s native currency, Robux.
In the ransom note sent to victims, it says that they need to buy a specific game pass, costing 1700 Robux, or around $20. After purchasing the game pass, they need to contact an email address specific with your username and a screenshot to prove the purchase.
Chaos? Or Ryuk?
Attackers are warning victims not to delete the game pass as this will make the process invalid.
If you thought $20 was exchanged compared to other malware (opens in new tab) operators whose demands run into the tens of thousands of dollars, keep in mind that the targets of this campaign are primarily gamers.
Another interesting point is that threat actors are using Chaos ransomware, which tries to impersonate Ryuk. In mid-2021, someone started selling a Chaos ransomware builder, allowing just about anyone with a few extra dollars to spare, to build their own ransomware strain.
The main difference between Chaos and Ryuk is the fact that the former is known to overwrite large files with squiggles.
In other words, once encrypted, any file larger than 2MB can never be recovered. This is a known fact for Chaos, and it may put off some people who have considered paying the ransom demand.
The researchers who discovered the campaign, MalwareHunterTeam, said that the creator of the Chaos ransomware pretends to be Ryuk by default, using the .ryuk extension for all encrypted files.
